A grand day out........Yesterday I went to Thorpe Park with a group of my uni friends for one of them's birthday and it was the most fun I'd had in ages! Despite an early start (8am, meaning I had to get myself up at 6 to get ready, an hour I'd almost forgetten actually existed) and a very long day it was worth it. A fairly big group of us got a coach from the university campus then set off to have a go on whatever rides took our fancy. I managed to surprise myself by actually having the guts to go on some of the 'scarier' attractions as I usually hate heights but this time I listened to the voice in my head telling me to stop being such a wuss and went on Colossus (which is possibly the most terrifying rollercoaster in the world, a massive drop and several twists and turns in the track meaning you're pretty much thrown around here, there and everywhere as it makes its way around), the new 'Saw' themed rollercoaster (also pretty scary, they winch you up through a darkened building while sound from the film plays and then you're basically dropped down and out and round in loops) and Samurai, which is basically a whirling dervish of absolute insanity ( you;re strapped into a seat, taken several feet up into the air and spun around at increasingly faster speeds).
At several points I did admittedly question my sanity for letting myself go on the sorts of things I usually hate but then balanced it out with things like the log flume ( I got soaked). And then after deciding my head for heights had had about enough for one day I perked myself up with a ridiculously expensive (£2.50) coffe and doughnut combo then just had a slow walk around the place before heading back home.
And I must say Thorpe Park itself is pretty impressive- I'd been once before yesterday, many yeas ago, and it does seem that its been improved. There's a great deal of variety in the attractions on offer, although I'm not sure whether or not £25 is a fair price to charge for entry, or what they charge for food (we stopped in the on-site Burger King for a lunch break) is value for money. But all in all it was a great day, with good company and some good laughs.
