30 Days of Night

Saw this finally and I certainly wasn't disappointed. There's a wonderful build up of suspense at the beginning and a rising feeling of foreboding which really puts the viewer on edge then it errupts into some relentless action scenes that at times leave you gasping for breath. The main characters are interesting and well rounded. Josh Hartnett and Melissa George head the cast as the estranged sheriff and fire warden and Ben Foster is excellent as the creepy stranger who strolls into town just before the brown stuff hits the fan. For me, Mark Boone Jr stole the show at points as the town outcast, Beau (he was Catlin in Vampires). Overall it is very well directed with great acting and score. The vampires themselves were sufficiently nasty, but maintaining a level of calculating intelligence instead of being simple killing machines. Well recommended.
