'Peers for hire'

Today's Daily Mail reported that four Labour peers could face a police investigation after an undercover 'sting' found that they were willing to change laws before they came before Parliament for a fee. If true I think that's absolutely scandalous, the House of Lords is supposed to be a bastion of the British political system! It doesn't bode well for Labour if they're found to be guilty, and the whole thing coupled with other things which have gone on in the corridors of power is beginning to leave me disillusioned with those who are supposed to be running the country, seems they're all out for themselves rather than the good of the nation.....

All poilitics, politicians and political parties are all the same if you ask me mate..i'm really not surprised to hear this kind of scandal whether it be labour the conservatives or whoever its always likely to happen... cause they are all corrupt or always likely to be corrupt..sure it wasn't that long ago when we heard about cash for peerages ...then there was the whole expenses of the politicians and them hiring in family members to work for them or paying them a wage when they weren't working at all.....even the speaker of the house was involved in a scandal

Yeh, they're all as bad as each other nowadays aren't they? The system is all wrong, and unless someone does something about it the ordinary British voter will be passed over for generations to come.

I thought the Lord at the centre of the news reports looked quite old and doddery....until I heard him on tape telling the reporter he charges £100,000   What's worse is that there's no punishment for that kind of going on.......that must change now,,,surely?
Lucifer_666

yeah he looks misleading ...you would think he's a harmless grandad until he starts back hand dealing    i can see maybe a change in the law to make things more clear in cases like this but i can't see anyone being charged or punnished now...they cover themselves too well with legal wranglings
Catnapper

It's like something out of Yes Minister where they were always wrangling and plotting! I've never seen the point of the House of Lords.....it seems to be a place where retired PMs and politicians hang out, have a few discussions and get to wear fancy robes!
Emperor Morphetine

Well, apparently two of the peers involved- Lords Taylor and Snape ( had to chuckle at that one, sounds like the bloke out of Harry Potter!) have now gone before the House and apologised in a bid to worm their way out of any possible punishment. And the sad fact is they'll probably merely be given slapped wrists and told to stay in line in future unless its deemed that they've caused serious disrepute by an official inquiry.

its always the same when it comes to politics .....though be thankful you don't have the irish politicians...they are the biggest crooks ever and what makes it worse is that the majority of the Irish public know it but see it almost like a good trait ..the Fianna fail party that are in power this years now are the biggest gangsters ever...there does be more tribunals investigating political connections with businesses you lot wouldn't believe it.....the most well known and loved Toaseach was a guy called Charlie Haughey  he was in court after he stepped down more times its a holy terror due to dodgy dealings when he was leader of the country ...then Bertie Ahern our last leader there was also having to testify over houses he bought and money he was getting in the UK from big business boys who were looking to invest here...its madness...yet these people are shockingly popular....i sometimes feel i'm alien to the mass public of irish
Emperor Morphetine

I know how you feel mate, I'm very disillusioned with politics after what's been going on across the UK over quite a few years! These people can't seem to recognise that they're public servants, and it sickens me.
Lucifer_666

i just wish there was a new wave of change in politics but it will never happen..corruption and pr are just too intertwined with it
Catnapper

Even if they set out full of ideals and principles........most of them soon end up in shady deals, scandals and corruption
Emperor Morphetine

Yep, hence why I can't trust a single one of them!
Catnapper

I don't trust them either!
Emperor Morphetine

They're all self serving and after the top jobs- they'll go to pretty much any length to get a cushy role.
