Bookies William Hill are betting on who will replace David Tennant as the next Doctor Who and there can little doubt who the public want to be the next Doctor.
"So far over 85% of wagers have been for Robert Carlyle to be the next Doctor. At this stage it is difficult to tell if the bets are wishful thinking or based on insider knowledge, but there can be little doubt that Carlyle would be a fantastic replacement." said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
Here are William Hill's current odds for the next Doctor Who:
2/1 Robert Carlyle
4/1 Jason Statham
9/2 Alan Davies
6/1 James Nesbitt
7/1 John Simm
10/1 Julian Walsh
12/1 Daniel Radcliffe
14/1 Nigel Harman
25/1 Catherine Tate
33/1 Billie Piper
I think the last two are not even worth considering (and I seriously hope the creators are not considering them either) but I did check out Julian Walsh who I never heard of....check out what I found...
"A STRING of bets on an unknown bald actor becoming the next Dr Who has left bookies in a spin.
Enthusiastic punters have staked cash on 5ft 7in Julian Walsh taking over the Tardis in the BBC sci-fi hit.
One even asked for a 2,500 bet ? amid rising speculation that current Doctor David Tennant, 35, will stop playing the Time
Lord after the third series.
Gamblers piled in after bookies began taking bets on who will become the 11th Doctor.
And many backed Mancunian Julian, 37 ? even though he is best known as a child star from 80s show Jossy’s Giants, and his current claim to fame is an ad for Warburton’s BREAD.
Darren Haines of bookies Paddy Power said last night: Julian might not look the part as he’s a bit squat and bald.
But he’s the one people have been trying to back in the last 48 hours. At first he was not even on our books, but we’ve had to slash his odds to 12/1. We fear punters might know something we don’t. We’re not convinced they’re right, but we have to sit up and take note.
A spokesman for Julian said last night: 'He is bemused by all of this. Nobody has approached us yet.'"
You know it would be a very gutsy move and one that I have to say I wouldn't have that much of a problem with in fact I think it could be great because it would be slightly bringing Doctor Who back to the way he's mean't to be or the way he was in the old series less on the cheeky smile that appeals to the ladies and more to the eccentric character that yes still appeals to his female assistants but on a more diverse level...
Another actor there I think could be great in the part is Daniel Radcliffe...he suits the glasses anyway and he's definitely an actor that impresses at the moment...whether they could land him in the part is the question...with the last three Potter films still to be released and more than likely a well filled diary of jobs in between these movies it will be difficult to get him to sign up for full seasons of Who...
Alan Davies or James Nesbitt would not be for me though. ...I wouldn't like to see either becoming the next 'Who' though the rest on the list kind of intrigue me..Carlyle I already heard was in the running and I do think he's a very good actor and could be great, Simm I would adore in the part but they have already established him now as The Master so it would be very difficult unless there is some kind of convergience between the two (which I actually think would be great for a season or two..and we the audience or the Doctor's Assistances wouldn't know exactly what way to take him some times.....they could have it that he's generally like the Doctor we know but has a tendency to be a bit more sinister at times and secretive...which would be the master's attributes....I'm telling you I should write for these people )
My sisters would be very happy now if Nigel Harmon (Dirty Den's son in Eastenders a few years back) got the job

Hmm difficult one......I can't think of any actors at the moment. Out of the ones listed, I'd go for Robert Carlyle, Daniel Radcliffe or John Simm. I can't imagine Julian Walsh......he'd be like a cuddly, nice guy Doctor Who.
I'll have a think about it later! |

I knew Julian Walsh would be a controversial decision on my part and others by the look of the betting....but I can definitely see where they are coming from there
They may want to play it safe however
There is no rush babe whenever you get a chance _________________

Russell T Davies is teasing us again......he says the next Doctor Who could be a woman and Amy Winehouse would be a great Doctor Judi Dench and Lesley Sharp have been named too!
Personally, I think the Doctor should always be male but you never know what they'll come up with next! If they ever went for a female Doctor then Lesley Sharp would be perfect.....except she's already been in an episode and met an untimely end! |

Though you see morrissey in the Xmas episode.....he apparently plays another Doctor.....what isn't sure is ....is a normal earth Doctor or a future incarnation of the Timelord?
So depending on this David morrissey could be in the betting too _________________

| I always think David Morrissey's a bit bland and boring somehow, so I wouldn't want him to be the new Doctor........but it all depends on who he is in the Christmas episode and how he plays the character! |
