I finished reading this today- it's a story by J.R.R Tolkien, set in a time long before 'The Lord Of The Rings'. The main protagonist is a young man named Turin who grows up ( unknowingly) in the grip of a curse put on his father Hurin by the first Dark Lord of Middle Earth, Morgoth, which brings doom to all his kin as Middle Earth steels itself for a war between the dark forces of Morgoth sent forth from Angband ( The Hells Of Iron) to strike against the various peoples that live in the surrounding areas. It's essentially a tragedy and it's very well written! Basically if you've read one or both of 'The Hobbit' or the 'Lord Of The Rings' series you'll probably like it.

Sounds quite intriguing though

Its a fairly recent release, put together by Tolkien's son Christopher. I enjoyed it, as I love The Lord Of The Rings series.

Ah thanks Morphy! I remembered an article about Children of Hurin a few weeks ago but I couldn't think why it was in the news.......it was because Tolkein's son had finished writing the novel for his father!
