I went to see this today and I must admit it was a lot better than reviews have made out in my opinion! It's all set around a fictional 1960s pirate radio station, Radio Rock- run by Quentin (Bill Nighy) with a motley crew of DJs- Simon ( Chris O'Dowd), The Count (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) and Dr Dave (Nick Frost)among them. There's a nice sort of 'coming of age' storyline involving Quentin's godson Carl (Tom Sturridge) who meets Marianne ( the lovely Tallulah Riley), Quentin's niece, as well, and it seems quite faithful to the pirate radio ethos as well as comedy conventions- the government take a good comedic pasting throughout as just one exampe.

Of course, being about music you want it to have a good soundtrack and it does- 'All Day And All Of The Night' by the Kinks, ' I Can See For Miles' by the Who and 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' by the Beach Boys among the choice cuts. There's a nice mix of styles in the music too- at certain points its more entertaining than the narrative! But overall I'd give this at least a solid 7 out of 10, its probably best enjoyed if you like your music and/ or yearn for a return to around 1966..........
