Let me start by saying any misgivings I had about McG directing this have been completely blown away! It's surprisingly dark. Darker than Rise Of The Machines (not difficult I know) and, to a point T2. It feels less like a sci-fi film and more of a war film that just happens to be a war against robots. Christian Bale makes a good John Connor and a lot more believable than Nick Stahl. Sam Worthington is good as Marcus Wright, angry and confused, but the jewel in the crown is Anton Yelchin as a young Kyle Reese. He's perfected Michael Bihen's mannerisims and voice and is very convincing as a young man who is about to become somebody of great importance. It may have a 12a rating, which is probably down to the toned down bad language and lack of blood, but it is quite tense, almost as tense as the first film.
I honestly can't understand how this film has got some really bad reviews. I though it was an excellent, fun action film. I know look forward to the fifth one. 4/5.

I was kind of avoiding it after I heard the reviews because many have given out about it . ..but now after reading your review ...i'm thinking are people complaining because it hasn't got the lighter elements of the previous two and is more war like.....you have convinced me Jip after all it was a war movie I wanted when i first heard of this project _________________

I'm not sure Luc. The tone might have had something to do with it, but there again, the first one wasn't exactly brimming over with humour was it? It may be the fact that it is a war film and there are no time travel elements, but there again it was pretty much implied from the announcement that it was going to be a war film and not time travel. I mean when McG said the film was going to be about the war against machines, what were people expecting? My Little Pony picnic? _________________ "Well, first of all, there's 4 of you. true ....part of me wonders whether the title of 'Teminator' sort of give a certain percentage of the audience preconceptions of what the were going to get before their asses even hit the cinema seats..... i think many would have seen the word 'Terminator' in the title and expected to see the time travel/android killer kind of thing..and so were always going to be disappointed......perhaps a different title would have been better ....then again its that name thats gets the ratings
i for one am happy there is no time travel element in the movie ...you can't win ...had there been...... people would have complained that it is a carbon copy of 2 or 3 _________________

I got to see this lately and like Jipdog I really enjoyed it too...it is definitely more the war movie than the sterio typical Terminator movie we have seen in the past and for that alone it gets a thumbs up from me. I know many may be a bit peeved off with Christian Bale after his tirade during the making of this project but he can fairly pull of these types of roles, I think its the gravel deep voice he puts on (I'm joking ),... either way he makes a very convincing John Connor, Anton Yelchin was exellent as Reece and Sam Worthington's portrayal of the new character Marcus Wright was pretty good too
In a way I can understand why many criticised the film and were left disappointed as it really wasn't what it said it would be on the tin...'The Terminator' name really does indicate a killing machine traveling back in time to get a target but this movie doesn't provide that at all instead it gives us the future.....a depressing war torn future, but still not as bad as I was kind of expecting nor as bad as what was shown from cut scenes of the future in the first two films then again this movie is set in the early days of the war with the robots so if your expecting running street battles with lasers firing from both sides while the resistance runs a guerrilla campaign you will be disappointed as the humans are even still
using bullets and alot of the action takes place on desert roads and other open spaces.
I was delighted that the rumoured ending I heard months back did not materialise too and believe me there was a time there that I was beginning to worry but thankfully the ending was different and life had meaning in my world again
Oh and check out the nod to T2 sequence where Connor plays Guns ans Roses before taking out a robot bike
An enjoyable special effects filled war film that has me looking forward to the next two
