The Writer's Guild strike is beginning to effect J.J. Abrams upcoming reinvention of "Star Trek".

"Lost" producer Damon Lindelof who's also producing 'Trek' found out that the lack of ability to re-write certain lines and scenes is taking its toll:

"Neither J.J. nor Damon are writers on the movie. But they are writers, and WGA members. During a WGA strike, you're not allowed to write on movies or television shows, period. So they can't change a word of the script, nor can anyone else. The script they had on November 5th is the script they have to go with.

Its unfortunately working out that the director can't change things. And it his own movie....it has to be annoying.
J.J. was describing a scene he was shooting the day before. Midway through it, he got a great idea for a new line. Which he couldn't write. Couldn't shoot. Couldn't be in his movie. Damon described it like having one of your superpowers taken away."

I don't like the sound of this at all

That seems harsh......writing's a creative thing and not to be allowed to change the script when you come up with a better line/idea is unfair. I know they have tight filming schedules and they'll have other projects lined up so they probably wouldn't be able to reshoot after the strike ends........but we could end up with a slightly inferior film.

I know thats what has me slightly worried....are we going to end up with a film that should be so much better just because of a damned strike....It must also be realy annoying for Abrahms considering he would probably normally rewrite scenes and stuff,... I just have visions that we will have Abrahms saying in commentary in years to comne saying he wanted to do this and that and us the viewer saying it would have been much better if he had
