Saw this last night at the IMAX theatre. It is probably the most faithful adaptaion of a cartoon I have ever seen, but thats the problem. To stretch a 22 minute cartoon to just over 2 hours, it can be a bit too much. Whilst the visuals are very faithful to the cartoon, it doesn't really help in the first hour of the film which is pretty much spent setting up the main part of the film. Flashy cartoony visuals and talk, talk, talk are very unsual bedfellows. When the setup is (finally) out of the way, it's a very good film that is entertaining and good humored, but it is pretty slow at the beginning. The fx are a tad ropey in places, but then it's to be expected when near enough everything is cgi. The race scenes are a marvel to behold, but can be headache inducing. I think kids will enjoy this a lot more than adults, but there is something there for everybody.

If I were to sum this movie in 1 sentence, it would be this: "A thrill ride of colour, that makes the eyes bleed."

3/5

Funny Jip of all the clips I have seen of this I was thinking the same thing about the early cgi as I had seen the part where the bro goes and collects him from school and I did think it looked ropey but yet once I seen the races it looks amazing...I still think though I'll wait for the dvd release
