It's been confirmed that Sienna Miller will play Maid Marion in another remake of Robin Hood. Russell Crowe is expected to play the Sheriff of Nottingham and Oscar-winning writer Brian Helgeland, along with director Ridley Scott, are also signed to the project.

Oh my god Crowe as the Sheriff    thats a definite change of role for him isn't it? It must be going to have a dark edge and realism to it with Scott at the the helm...in other words Crowe won't be going about like Alan Rickman did

I wonder who will play the man in green tights?

I thought Crowe was playing Robin at first, which would be totally wrong! I can see him as the Sheriff though and he won't be like Alan Rickman.....thank goodness

As long as they don't have a Kevin Costner type Robin then it should be ok

I just can't see him as the Sheriff either then again as I said I keep seeing the role as the Alan Rickman extravangant kind of part

Robin will more than likely be a young actor or at least a younger actor to Crowe I reckon and no not Dominic Keating   ...though perhaps it was a new gay type Robin

He'll make an excellent Sheriff....all twisted and evil! Alan Rickman was too over the top and more of a pantomime villain

DK's in his late 40s.....though he's looking very good    ....so he'd be too old for the part anyway. Pity, as he's got the Michael Praed sexy type of voice   ....and he's definitely not gay

Can you imagine Crowe as a camp pantomine villain

Oh my God now he's like Michael Praed    he could be a gay man oh I mean ....a merry man

I'm just kidding

Here's a very interesting casting rumor. The Daily Mail reports that Ridley Scott is keen to cast Christian Bale as Robin Hood in his upcoming reinvention of the legend "Nottingham".

The new version pains the Sheriff of Nottingham (Russell Crowe) as a more noble character forced to work for a tyrant, whilst Hood himself will be portrayed as a much darker and dangerous personality than previous incarnations.

Sienna Miller was cast earlier this week to play Maid Marion who becomes the center of a love triangle with Hood & the Sheriff.

Vanessa Redgrave, William Hurt and young "Atonement" actress Saoirse Ronan will also apparently appear in the project which begins costume fittings next week

Its actually an interesting concept and kind of reminds me of the slant the new BBC Robin Hood Series has gone down with the love triangle.... of course in the BBC its Guy and not the Sheriff but it may be interesting to see a more darkjer Robin than before

I also like Bale as Robin if they can get him that is

I like the idea of Robin Hood being a more edgier and darker character but I'm not sure about the Sheriff being a more noble character.......we're used to him being the baddie so we could end up liking the Sheriff more than Robin   Course, it all depends how it's written!

I like the idea of Bale as Robin too   .......Russell Crowe and Christian Bale were both excellent in 3:10 to Yuma and they said they'd like to work together again......so I hope they're both in this film

I think its quite possible to have it that the Sheriff is a noble character because I know he's the main bad guy in many of interpretations of Hood but by right he's only a puppet of the real villain who is Prince John (the King's Brother and acting king) and it could be that Crowe's character could be just following orders and being loyal to his King at that time and
Robin Hood is just seen as a petty thief and killer of the day...

I like the idea of it and as you say it places the two men once again facing off each other...I must get to see that western too

That might work Luc......the Sheriff could be reluctant to carry out some of the King's wishes and he and Robin have a grudging respect for each other......till they both fall for Marion.
