According to Variety, actress Marlene Forte (Real Women Have Curves), has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie prequel playing the Transporter Chief of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise.

Forte was recently seen in 24, The Unit, Lost and CSI.

Her other television credits include The West Wing, Bones, Nip/Tuk, The George Lopez Show and Oscar winning director Paul Haggis' Family Law.

Marlene Forte is represented by Tony Martinez at GVA and managed by Paulo Andres at Link Talent Management.

In the Original Series, Lt. John Kyle, played by actor John Winston, was the Transporter Chief of the Enterprise. The first Transporter Chief of the Enterprise was Chief Pitcairn, who served under Captain Pike in the 1964 pilot episode "The Cage." The part of Pitcairn was played by Clegg Hoyt, but his voice was supplied by Robert C. Johnson.

Is it just me that thinks this is a strange choice...if she was an Admiral I probably wouldn't have a problem but Transporter Chief?    Well I think its weird

Hey it's Star Trek where everyone is equal Luc....so a female Transporter Chief shouldn't raise eyebrows....not even Spock's   No, I know what you mean......it's usually been a male Transporter Chief so it seems strange but JJ Abrams is probably trying something different. It shouldn't affect anything cause I'm sure the film will be terrific.

Oh no babe you got me wrong its not that she is female ....its the fact that she is quite an oldish female that I find it strange and a well enough known actress too I just though he would have her an Admiral or something if she was to star....a transporter Chief seems pretty down the importance level....though I guess if I was in danger on an alien world calling for a quick transport out...her job would be quite significant to me then

I know what you usually think of females doing what's usually been seen as a male's job so I thought that's what you meant!

Age shouldn't matter, if she's a Transporter Chief then she'll have worked her way up through the ranks and she'll know how a Transporter works so she can sort out any problems. I've had a thought though.......is the film set before the tv series Enterprise? If it is, then using transporters wouldn't make sense.......in Enterprise they only used them for transporting equipment and food on to the ship at first cause humans hadn't used transporters before......it was later on in Enterprise they actually used them to beam down to a planet to help Captain Archer, Trip and T'Pol when they were being held captive.

Hey I'm not that bad...you make me sound really sexist there

And its not even age really its the fact that an established enough actress of a particular age just seems to be a a transporter chief that I find weird...like I said in my original post if she was an Admiral I wouldn't see the problem...
The film is set well after the series Enterprise Cat and just before TOS so transporters will be established as the way to travel by that stage

I never even thought of sexist

It could be the Transporter Chief has quite a big role to play in the film so she'll have a lot of lines to say........but even if it's just a small role, she's part of a potentially huge hit film so she'd get noticed and it'll lead to even more film roles, plus she'd get a decent amount of money too from STXI

Going off her profile on imdb she's done mainly tv work, with a few fairly unknown films thrown in so a role in STXI could be a huge step up for her career.

Is it me or does she have a kinda look of Sigourney Weaver?
