Winner of several awards at last years film festivals and a nomination at the Sundance Film Festival Eagle vs Shark is an enjoyable off-beat comedy set in New Zealand. Likened by many to Napoleon Dynamite this film has a different feel to it and could not be accused of being a rip-off.

The story starts off with Lily, a social misfit who works in a burger restaurant longing for midday when computer nerd Jarrod walks in for his lunchtime burger. Jarrod is more interested in Lily’s hotter colleague and when he organises the ultimate in geeky parties Lily manages to worm her way in and impress Jarrod with her computer games skills during his annual computer beat ‘em up tournament.

An unlikely relationship ensues and Lily learns that Jarrod has spent the last few years ‘in training’ for his ‘mission’ to seek revenge on his hometown bully. The story continues with Jarrod and Lily travelling to his hometown and follows their awkward social inadequacies as their relationship suffers ups and downs.

This film is often funny and also quite heartfelt as the director portrays the characters vulnerabilities caused by their different upbringings. If you like your comedy different to the main stream American teen-movies this will appeal to you, however if not I would steer clear of it.

3/5

Has it come out on DVD Red cause I have a feeling I might have it? If so, I'll watch it then I can say if I liked it or not!
