I had to watch this as a case study on British comedy for my uni course and it was quite enjoyable, although some of the humour is more than a bit dated. It's all set during the British occupation of India as Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond (Sid James), the governor of Kalabar province, sets about diplomatic relations with the native leader, the Khasi ( Kenneth Williams) who desperately wants the British out.
All the while the men of an army regiment stationed there, including Private James Widdle (Charles Hawtrey) must try to suppress the Burpa tribe led by the warrior chief Bunghit Din. All the usual double entendres and innuendo are present and correct, plus some quite good satire regarding the state of Britain at the time it was made.
It wasn't what I was expecting at all but it wasn't too bad.

I remember the kilt lifting scene and the part when they're eating dinner and being very British and stoical as the building's being blasted to bits! |

I love the Carry on films
And yeah I think that is the scene I remember most too ...the bit where they are all having dinner like proper upper class English people while bombs and shooting is destroying all around them
Wasn't Roy Castle in that film too? _________________
